While there is still much work to do, we are continually looking for ways to make change. Change to feel good about when you buy from a sustainable store. Purchasing a sustainable fashion piece makes a difference and Cleo cares about impacting change for the better.
Items labeled as ‘LOW IMPACT’ better protect the environment. When a low impact process is used, consumption is significantly lessened in these three main areas: water, energy, and chemical usage. Using less water helps maintain this important natural resource. Reducing the use of chemicals improves the impact on the environment and the health of workers. By changing processes to use less water and chemicals, energy consumption is much lower, contributing to a cleaner environment. In 2022 we saved 450,000 litres of water through our low impact sustainable products!
Items using ‘RECYCLED MATERIALS’ are made from turning plastic waste into fibers for apparel production. Recycled polyester consists mostly of plastic bottles. Using recycled materials keeps plastic waste from accumulating in the environment, especially our oceans. This helps protect important ecosystems and conserves natural resources. Recycled polyester eliminates the need for new petroleum, emitting fewer greenhouse gases. This process also conserves water and energy. In 2022, by using recycled materials, we helped divert 1.6 million plastic bottles from landfills.
Items with ‘SUSTAINABLE COTTON FIBER’ are ethically sourced with a holistic approach, ensuring practices support environmental, social, and economical sustainability. This practice aids in protecting and restoring the earth's natural resources through soil health, water management, greenhouse gas emissions, and climate resilience. Producing sustainable cotton fiber is better for the livelihood of the farmers, women's equality, and people's health.
Did you know that in 2022, 35% of the Cleo collection had a sustainable element? That’s a lot of sustainable fashion! Unfortunately, we know this isn't enough. Our goal is to achieve at least 50% sustainable apparel by 2023 (we have reached 65%!) and 75% sustainable in 2024.
Making a difference comes from more than our sustainable fashion collection. We know that plastic has a major negative impact on the environment. All single use plastic bags for customers have been replaced with recyclable or compostable paper bags. We are currently working hard to ensure all plastic packaging is made from 100% recycled materials by Fall 2023.
